May 11, 2026 - Do we understand the line in The Lord’s Prayer “thy will be done”? We’re told in several verses to ask for what we want, like in Matthew 7:7, John 14:13, John 15:7, Mark 11.24 just to name a few. I realized the other day that praying for what I want is not abiding in the ““thy will be done” line.
For instance: while driving to work, I would always pray, “please Lord, bring me the people in order for me to make a sale.” Wrong! I should have been praying, “Please Lord, while I am meeting with prospective clients, guide and lead me in order to fulfill your will and glorify you.
John 14:14 states “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
1 John 5:5 states … “that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
Our lives are not about fulfilling what we want, but what He needs for us to accomplish. If we’re dealing with a tough situation, let’s not pray and ask him to fix it and take away the pain, but to show us what He needs us to do in this situation in order to fulfill His will.
